What went wrong and what is taking it slow?

she and me are both 26, i've never dated before and me and a friend said we like each other, we were getting to know each other really well and then her mom told her we were going too fast, all we did was talk to each other on the phone and internet and went to a dance or 2, well 2 weeks ago we strted going to the same place twice a week, which she saked me to goto, and she told me that her worst fear was me leaveing her, so i wrote a note telling her i wouldn't and tried to make a commitment with courtship, also i told her i loved her, we had been seeing each other for 2 months, and she had somethings to take care of so we wouldn't actually beable to date, i've known her for 14 years and been talking to her more the past 7 months, her mom made her return the christmas preasent to me, did i go too fast?
