Bush resents signing Housing bill, but is forced to in order to bail out Fanny and Freddy ?

I never did understand the conservative rationale of why it's okay to use government funds to bail out companies that face bankruptcy, but not okay for the government to bail out citizens. Shouldn't the companies have personal (or I guess in this case, corporate) responsibility? How can we have a free market if big businesses never have to face the consequences of their bad decisions? When people complain about getting ripped off, their response is "caveat emptor." When a company goes in the tank from it's own stupid business decisions, the Republicans are quick with billion dollar bail-out packages. It really makes me want to pay my taxes knowing that money won't help me, but will go to help those that try to profiteer off of me.
